Survivor-LED
All work is conducted using a survivor-centered approach, from initial planning, to risk assessments, to investigation strategies, to interviewing techniques and protection strategies. Carrie is experienced in working with vulnerable witnesses and victims, including SGBV survivors (men and women, including individuals belonging to the LGBTQIA+ community) . A survivor-centered approach incorporates “Do No Harm” but takes additional proactive steps to ensure agency and dignity are respected.
gender-sensitive
A gendered lens is applied during all stages of work. Using a gender analysis prevents overlooking human rights violations or specific/compound harm faced by segments of society, including women, men, boys, girls, and the LGBTQIA+ community. It also ensures that any action undertaken in the course of a project does not contribute to adverse effects or the invisibilisation of certain groups.
professional
Carrie maintains up-to-date professional development and training to ensure her techniques represent international best practice. She has trained extensively with the Institute for International Criminal Investigations (IICI) on Investigation Team Management, Investigation of Conflict-Related Sexual and Gender Based Violence, Analysis, and International Investigations, as well as with Bellingcat on Open Source Investigations (OSINT). She maintains current Hostile Environment Awareness/SSAFE and Mine Awareness certifications.
